Poetry judges appointed Damon Lord this afternoon as the Worcestershire Poet Laureate 2023-24, organised by the Worcestershire LitFest and Fringe. Competing against three other extremely talented poets, Damon entertained the judges and audience with interactive poetry at the Swan Theatre, Worcester, presenting a poem on his experiences with PTSD, and a second poem on unity in Worcestershire.

The thirteenth holder of the title of Poet Laureate for Worcestershire, Damon will serve for a year as an ambassador for the literary community, and celebrate and promote poetry throughout the county. Damon also seeks to work with important sites and tourist destinations around the shire, to encapsulate the county in words. He aims to promote the county through poetry as a welcoming place.

Damon will be appearing later this week at 42, Worcester's premier genre spoken word night, at St Swithun's Church Arts Centre, Church Terrace, High Street, Worcester, on Tuesday 13th June 2023, at 7:30 p.m.

He'll be appearing again at the same venue for Worcester's Speakeasy event on Thursday 15th June at 7:30 p.m., where he will be formally presented with his trophy.
